How easy is it to get a ring (the diamonds) re set into a different setting?
I have this ring that was given to me from my mom, it was my great aunts engagement ring. It is yellow gold, and has a round center diamond about 1 carat and diamonds on the side. (2 on each side). It is a tier setting I guess, and was appraised at around $5,000. Anyway - I want to get it set into white gold, and pick out my own setting - use the diamonds. I live in CT - Does anyone know where I can go to get this done? I want to use the diamonds and make it my own. This will be used as my engagment ring when the time comes, so my boyfriend will me assisting me in picking out the settings, also so his ring can match mine down the road. Any suggestions I soooo appreciate. Thanks!
People do it all the time so I can't imagine it is too difficult. I believe the charge for changing out just the centre stone is about $50. My concern would be each time the stones are removed you risk an incompetent jeweller damaging the stones or a sneaky jeweller trading the stones out for something cheaper or fake. So, make sure you go to a trusted jeweller, and even then, make sure the shop or yourself has insurance to cover the stones in the event of damage.
